Building Alliances - Food Policy Workshop
Food policy in Wales is undergoing major changes and we urgently need a robust and well-informed debate about what these changes mean for different stakeholders from farm to fork. This online FEAW workshop is a contribution to that debate. The workshop focuses on 2 of the most important food policy issues facing Wales in the Seventh Senedd: the Sustainable Farming Scheme and Universal Free School Meals.
The SFS covers a wide array of supply-side issues, such as land use management, public money for public goods, climate-friendly farming and the balance between food production and environmental stewardship; while UFSM covers equally important demand-side issues, such as the prospects for local food sourcing, the uneven uptake of healthy meals, the cost of providing nutritious meals at a time of spiralling food prices, and the balance between meat and plant protein in school menus.
Below is a provisional programme for the event:
PROGRAMME
12.00: Welcome and introduction

Homelessness and the lack of affordable homes, the need to modernise existing ones and building the net zero homes of the future – are persistently tricky issues for policy makers and practitioners.
Rising to the top of the agenda is the role of tenants and communities in shaping this, an area that the Alliance has been working on for the past six months.

- How housing is stimulating new and innovative ‘alliance of the willing’ between landlords, contractors and manufacturers
- How there is a growing ‘tenant voice’ movement that is having an impact at a national level and beyond Wales
- Identifying opportunities to work across sectors with housing organisations.
